During our 2020 Corporate Partners & Community Virtual Event, we were joined by SSM Health’s Chief Community Health Officer and St. Louis Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force Incident Commander Dr. Alexander Garza. Dr. Garza shared with us his insights regarding our region’s COVID-19 response, including what he and the Pandemic Task Force are doing to monitor and combat the spread of the virus in our region.
Key takeaways from the presentation included:
- Details on the beginnings of SSM’s disaster preparedness when a global pandemic began to seem likely at the start of 2020
- How the St. Louis community and surrounding counties came together to create a plan that would sustain our health care systems in order to support patients and combat the spread of the disease
- Ways that local universities joined the fight by providing pivotal data analysis in order to create accurate projections moving forward into the future
- What’s next: from the SLU Vaccine Research Center who is currently in the midst of phase 3 vaccine trials to continued risk minimization within our area
